Day 2 - A Day in Bristol
Spend the day at leisure to explore Bristol - you may even come across some of the murals and street art by one of the city’s most notorious sons, Banksy! The restored Harbourside area was once a busy dock where sailors and merchants would trade goods and set sail on voyages of discovery. Today it is an attractive, modern development filled with restaurants, bars and shops. The area buzzes with life and is a great place for a stroll along the water's edge and to Millennium Square with its fountains and world-class attractions. You may like to visit Brunel’s ground-breaking SS Great Britain, one of the most important historic ships in the world and a template for all modern ships to come (entrance not included – approx £22 pp in 2023 - pre-booking may be required). Day 3 - Berkeley Castle & Castle Combe
Head out of Bristol into Gloucestershire to visit Berkeley Castle, a jewel in the crown of British history. The ancient fortress built in the 12th century is a Grade I listed building and a still lived-in family home, surrounded by glorious countryside and beautiful gardens. It has been used a film location for many period dramas, including the BBC's Wolf Hall, Galavant and The White Princess. It was the last place of residence of King Edward II, who was imprisoned in the castle and murdered within its walls. Take a guided tour of the castle and enjoy time to wander the terraced gardens and lawns, perhaps a look in the family chapel or grab a cuppa in the all new coffee shop. (NB Access to the castle is via the Keep Steps which are uneven but with a handrail. There are also some steep stone steps, uneven polished floors and flights of stairs to different public areas including the first floor rooms). Later take a scenic drive to the historic village of Castle Combe in the Cotswolds AONB. (Access to the village is via an incline from the coach park) Often referred to the 'prettiest village' in England, Castle Combe offers plenty of picturesque walks and quaint villages streets waiting to be explored! The houses are made up of the typical honey coloured Cotswold stone and in the village you'll find a Market Cross and 13th century St Andrew’s Church as well as a couple of pubs and tea rooms. DBB
Day 4 – After checking out this morning, head home via Royal Windsor where you spend enjoy some free time in this buzzing town with its world-famous majestic castle right in the centre. Then it’s time to re-board the coach to head back to interchange and onward to your home towns mid-evening.
